The importance of waste-to-green energy in the context of the sustainable energy industry, providing a great opportunity for green financing
About this event Objective of this Event is to demonstrate and highlight the importance of waste-to-green energy in the context of the sustainable energy industry, ultimately providing a great opportunity for green financing. The Event covers ESG policies in Hong Kong, social impact of sustainable and renewable energy industry, how hydrogen could be a good means for renewable energy, and blockchain as a digital enabler for green finance. The recent 26th climate change Conference of the Parties (COP26) was a critical summit for global climate action. The COP26 outcome document, calls on 197 countries including China to present strong national action plans for increasing ambitious climate actions . It is expected that governments of each country will put in new ESG policies and regulations in order to achieve the ultimate target of carbon-neutrality. Examples of sustainable and renewable energy include solar, wind, hydro, biomass, hydrogen and waste-to-energy. Waste-to-energy is gaining its importance as it is a sustainable approach to generate and regenerate energy from different kinds of waste such as urban waste. It assists in the management of waste issues while producing energy through technology .Carbon-neutral is the new gold. Studies have shown that there is a positive correlation between social impact and financial returns, which will increase as sustainable macro trends play out. President Xi Jinping confirmed at COP26 that China’s goal is to reach carbon emission peak by 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2060 (also known as the “30/60 goal”). It is imperative for China to put in place sound public policy incentives to encourage market forces to fill in the current gap, and China is encouraging “massive green investment” and the development of a wide range of green finance products such as green bonds. Embracing new technologies that enable drastic reductions in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions will be a crucial element to a successful transition. Emerging distributed ledger technologies (DLT), such as blockchain, have the potential to improve current processes and systems by acting as a digital enabler across the infrastructure value chain .
